Dr. Muncy was inducted in the Hall of Fame at our October Banquet.
He was born April 9, 1918 in Tazewell, TN. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, TN. Dr. Muncy graduated from Lincoln Memorial University and UT Medical School. After an internship at Knoxville General Hospital he did residencies in cardiology and internal medicine at Methodist Hospital, Dallas, TX and Tufts University, Boston, MA. He served 2 1/2 years in the US Army during World War II, 22 months of which were spent in the Pacific Theater. He was in medical practice in Jefferson City for forty years. Dr. Muncy was active in civic and community affairs throughout his life. He served as a Jefferson City Councilman, President of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce, President of the Tennessee Heart Association, first and fifth President of the Carson-Newman College Community Council, among many other activities. After he retired, he and his wife, Jean traveled extensively throughout the world and to all fifty states. Dr. Muncy is the author of two books and numerous book chapters and articles which were published in various journals newsletters, and newspapers. He was an accomplished photographer. He had a lifelong interest in history and was the official Jefferson County Historian from 1995 to 2006.
